Tips on successfully selling a used car?

Cecil Derenzi: clean the hell out of it!

Letitia Bigelow: Definitely check the private seller values on kbb.com or nada.com before you decide on a price for your car. When placing your ad, be as descriptive as you can. Include the mileage, engine size, transmission type (auto or manual), vehicle options, color, etc. Be honest about any issues or problems the car may have, cosmetic or mechanical. If it has ever been wrecked before, someone may want to know that as well. If the ad you are posting allows pictures, post as many as you possibly can, with pics of the inside and outside of the car. I like to use autotrader.com when we sell cars; we've gotten excellent results from using it. Dealing in cash is usually the safest way. But you could also do checks, provided a person brought you a check WHILE THE BANKS ARE STILL OPEN. If you do that, then you can call that particular bank, and verify that the person attempting to purchase the car has enough funds in his/her a! ccount to cover that check they are about to give you. If they come to see your car when banks aren't open, I'd recommend accepting cash only, or waiting til the banks are open if you have to accept a check. And make sure the car is as clean as you can get it, both inside and out when someone comes to look at it. A clean, shiny car is much more likely to sell than a dirty one. You will also need to have the title for it, or be able to get the title from your financial institution. Make sure the person purchasing has a tag of some sort that is theirs to put on the car, don't let them take yours for any reason! Also, you should probably expect some negotiating from most people when they are wanting to buy a car. The amount you are willing to accept off of your original asking price is all up to you. Good luck!...Show more

Coleen Carignan: Put in the Make model year and transmission type. The color and the miles. Tell what kind of shape it is in. Also say you are a pr! ivate seller. Best thing to so is put an advertisement in you! local ring (paper, merchandiser). It is better to do this in cash but checks are fine. Just make sure to ask the person how they want to pay for this.

Evelin Turlich: First of all check http://www.kbb.comCheck for a private seller value, in your area. To make sure you are asking the right prize. Have as much knowledge about the car as possible. The more you know the less the buyer will want to mess with you. Other then that, it just helps if the car is really clean and has a recent tune up. Or proof of previous tune up history, cash is fine i guess. Just make sure, you one of those markers to mark 100 dollar bills, cause my friend got 27 fake 100 dollar bills.. Oh yeah i know its kinda akward but wear sexy clothes if it's a guy he'll buy it. Lol we're so stupid sometimes....Show more

Robin Weelborg: Craig's list is full of people trying to scam you. If someone is trying to overpay you or wants to send a certified check, don't do it. Cash or paypal only! Also! , a lot of people say they'll buy your item, but then never show up to get it. I know it sounds mean, but keep that item listed until a person actually shows up for it. Don't tell other potential buyers that it's no longer available until it's actually sold. I've been burnt many times. Then those other potential buyers have already bought another item. It's aggravating, so get used to it :)...Show more

Jesse Japak: have a mechanic go over the car and write you a statement saying he could find no issues. cars that are cleaned and detailed get a better offer than a dirty one

Carolynn Testani: cash is always best...be as truthfull as possable, list any work you have had done...list the bad pionts as well as the good..always been servised/best oil etc...good luck.
