Colby Millberg: Your university should have study abroad programs already set up with UK unis, so go to the student exchange office to see what they have available. In addition, you can also set up your own study abroad with a UK uni - almost all UK unis accept study abroad students; and most have a specific application you'd need to fill out. You can check their websites or email them for information. There are some really good engineering programs in the UK - some of the best in the world are there. They include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, U Manchester, U Edinburgh, U Birmingham, University College London, and U Southampton. In general, anyplace outside of London will be less expensive than London. Some of the unis I listed are in the city (UCL, Imperial). Some are less than an hour and a half by train (Cambridge, Oxford). Others are further, but are located in cities that have their own charms. Edinburgh, for example, rocks. You'll need to check the siz! e on each of these unis, and their location. See if it suits you. The thing about London is that it is huge, but it doesn't feel huge. It's more like Boston, in that way - very walkable, and split into distinct neighborhoods. It offers the resources of a huge city, but doesn't feel overwhelming like NYC or Tokyo. It may be worth looking into - I'm just saying don't rule it out right now. Check it out first. It may surprise you. And it's just such a wonderful town in which to be a student. It is possible that you won't be able to find a program that is as short as one semester. UK unis are set up differently than those in the US, and at many unis, their classes (called units or modules) go over the course of a year. That's something you'll need to investigate. But if you find that's the case, and you really need something short-term, consider going there for the summer, rather than the spring. Elden Dedon: I used to live in England, and no ma! tter where you go it's not really less/more crowded (even London doesn't have a ton of people walking around everyone), in my opinion. No matter where you go it's going to be rather expensive, it's about: 1 pound=1.5 USD, so just make sure to save up! (especially as a college student, because we're all cheap like that and need our money for food and stuff :D totally understand that aspect!!!) haha. But usually if you're studying abroad, whatever University you're at in America has a specific university that you transfer to overseas, so perhaps discuss those options with your school :)...Show more
