Most colleges require the SAT; some require the ACT. The ACT is mostly required in the southwest.The ACT has 5 tests: English, Math, Reading, Science and and writing....Show more

Ramona Pago: The ACT is a college entrance exam. It's formatted differently than the SAT (the questions are asked! differently and the subjects are also different) but both are used by admissions officers at some (not all) universities to determine what students they can and can't admit. Most colleges require the SAT; some require the ACT (primarily Southern colleges). Sometimes a college will accept either score.
